ALAN AND SUZANNE OSMOND
ANNOUNCE SUPPORT FOR
REFERENDUM 1
PROVO – Today Alan and Suzanne Osmond announced their official support for Referendum 1 which provides parents with the option of using vouchers to send their children to private school. Alan Osmond is best known as the leader of the 50 year old veteran entertainers, The Osmond Brothers. Suzanne Osmond has been a long time advocate for education, family, and community. She is the author of Cooking for Boys.com, which was inspired by the couple’s eight sons.
“This Referendum will allow parents to make good choices regarding their children’s education, save Utah taxpayers a hefty sum, and allow Utah students and Utah teachers in public schools to enjoy smaller class sizes as well,” the Osmonds said in a joint statement. “The only way you wouldn’t support it is if you had an interest beyond the well being of our state.”
Referendum 1 is the most recent attempt to reform education in Utah. As HB 148, it was signed into law in February by Governor Huntsman. Opponents, lead by the UEA and the NEA, forced it to be suspended and to appear on the ballot this November as a referendum. It has continued to be opposed by large multi-state unions, while garnering grassroots support of parents throughout Utah.
